I posted this thread to hear from those who got a recommended approval in the past.

1. Does a recommended approval give you a legal status in the country?
2. Does a recommended approval give me a protection in case COP embassy in the US decides to do something bad for me? In other words, does COP emabassy in the US have the right to chase me if I am not an asylee yet? Am I protected by the US government?
2. How long did you wait for a final approval?
3. What methods did you use to follow up with the asylum office while you were waiting for a final approval?
4. Was there a way for you to find out the status of your name check?

Uncle Joe,
Your answer was no for my first question. Does that mean I have no status yet.
Your answer was no for my second question. Does that mean that COP goverment has the power to ask US goverment to send me back. This is what the officials told my friends in COP. I searched the Internet about this subject but I couldn't get an answer

USCIS must send you the final approval ASAP

Edit:

Sorry pal, they should send the EAD ASAP then think about the final approval

1. Yes, once you filed an application for asylum, your presence in the US is LEGAL until your case is resolved. NONE will arrest you unless you commit a crime. You can get EAD and work, get SSN if you don't have.
2. No, you are under protection of US government until your case resolved. I don't think Embassies practice arresting or chasing their citizen's in the territory of the US. It would be illegal and silly.
3. Wait :(. For some people as quick as 15 days (my final approval followed the the recommended one after the 15 days), some people say it takes longer. I reckon, it depends on the factors such as you NAME, USCIS center, etc.

Good luck!

been there done that.....I was recommended for approval in 08/03....as mentioned above you should be fine....it took me six months to get the final approval...call your asylum office and try to talk to an immigration officer, after a few days of my first call I got the approval notice.
Hang in there and be patient
