Hello Forum:

I have a question.
I am a US Citizen. My husband had an asylee status when we got married. But he got his green card(adjustment of status) through marriage and NOT through asylum.

Back home One of his close family member is seriously ill.

Can he travel back to his home country with this green card status? and also can he travel back to his home country after US Citizenship?

Thanks a lot...

Actually it makes perfect sense. One wins asylum status if he/she successfully proves to USCIS that his/her life is in danger in a specific country, called COP. Now if after acquiring asylee status, this individual goes back to COP for a 3 month holiday (for example), then wouldn't USCIS wonder what happened to that life threat? Has it disappeared? Or was the asylee status holder lying throughout the asylum application process?
So barring drastic changes in the COP, there is always a question mark when an asylee visits his/her COP (Country of Persecution).

I am surprised, I never knew that as a former asylee, it could be a problem....Immigration is really complicated.
