Questions on I-130 - applying for Husband

Hello,

I am engaged to a man from Canada and need to know the cheapest, fastest way for him to obtain a green card so he can come live, and work here.

From what i was told I should marry him in Canada then send in the I-130 form on his behalf and then once he receives the green card he moves here to live with me and finds a job and we send in the I-751 form to remove the Conditions of Residence.

First question, does the I-751 form make him a citizen or do we also have to send in the N-400 (what was it 3-4 years later?) form for him to obtain citizenship?

Second question is this the fastest, cheapest way to go about things? I am currently in college so money is tight, I heard he can come over on a fiance visa but then he wouldn't be able to work, and then we would still have to send in a form for his green card so he can and that would just draw things out and make everything more expensive.

Also is it true that I do not have to file the Form I-485 seeing as i would be filing form I-751?

No! You can only apply for citizenship when he becomes eligible (which will be 3 years, less 90 days from the date his greencard will be issued from- should he still be married to you at the time)

Is this the fastest way? As you have already identified....no! The fiance visa is faster on average.
Is this the cheapest way? Yes!! As once again, youve already identified that once he arrives here on a fiance visa, he will need to undergo AOS in order to apply for a work permit and greencard which also means more $$$

So you therefore have to ask yourselves whether its the speed of having him here thats the most important (therefore fiance visa), or whether less paper work and less $$$ is more important (therefore immigrant visa)?

Thank you,
Waiting isn't a big problem, also, I was looking for confirmation if these are the correct steps to take:
after marriage, send in the I-130 form on his behalf and then once he receives the GC and is living here we send in the I-751 form to remove the Conditions of Residence and then 3 years later apply for citizenship.

From what I've seen on these forums it only took some people 3 months from sending in their I-130 form to receiving their GC, I can only hope I'm that lucky :)

No worries!!

Here's a step by step guide to help you with the filing process:
This tells you what forms to fill out and what to include in your petition

As for the removal of conditions....this is done 2 years (less 90 days) from the date of issue of the conditional GC (the conditional GC is a 2 year GC). So this is when you file the I-751.
Once conditions are removed, then he will receive his 10 year GC. 3 years (less 90 days) from the date his conditional GC was issued is when citizenship is filed (so he may only have the 10 year GC for a matter of months- or not at all as have been some people's experience due to delays in card production before he is eligible to file for citizenship).

Ha ha- I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. I'd mentally prepare for a 8-12 month wait though ;)
