Citizen certificate and seal?

Hah, you are right on that I think Huracan.
Anyway, I am happy to say after a 2 hour wait they fixed it at the infopass appointment.
I applied for the passport on my way back to work.

I did ask if all certificates should have a seal and the officer looked at me like I was ridiculous for even asking and said "of course".
So if anyone out there doesn't have one you might want to get it fixed.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I never knew it was supposed to have a seal, but thinking logically it's a legal document so it should, otherwise, like the passport lady said "anyone can put any picture on the certificate".

Congratulations! :) I'm happy your problem got solved easily. By the way, I checked all of our certificates of naturalization and citizenship this morning and all had the raised seal. I think you are right. People who have certificates without the raised seal should consider scheduling an Infopass to get the problem solved, even if they were able to obtain passports.

Nope they took my certificate to verify I was really a citizen. They said they had to pull my file. Then half an hour or more later they came back with it with a seal on it.
Maybe it was easy because I just received it last Tuesday. I should clarify that, the officer who checked me in said 'It's lucky you this was only last week, we have a new director".

I am thinking if anyone was naturalized when they had the former director they may have a problem if their cert is not 'sealed'. They must change info on the seals or something.

I will be interested to hear how others get on or whether or not they have seals.

You may be lucky. The lady at the post office, the same one I saw who wouldn't accept it the other day, told me that it depends on who processes the passport and how diligent they are. They might not notice.
I know I have read of some who have passports but they don't see a seal on their cert.

:eek::confused:

How was it fixed? They found a picture with a seal and makde you another certificate?

A raised seal is made by a embossing stamp. All you do is insert the certificate in the stamp press and it raises the paper by a few milliliters.

The problem is on mine the raised seal is only on the picture but not on the certificate. So the picture was apparently stamped before being placed on
the certificate. In the OP's case, now the raised seal is perhaps on both
picture and the certificate (maybe this is the normal way)

Mine has it both on picture and certificate. It could be that on yours they stamped it together but then removed it and stuck your picture on a new certificate after a mistake was found.

WBH I think you are ok. The one I saw at the passport office the other day had the seal on the picture, not on the certificate, it's more like half a seal, not what I would call an actual seal like a notary public would do.

Mine is the same too, only on the bottom of the picture. As long as it has some kind of seal I would say yours is fine.

That's what it looks like to me. The one at the post office appeared to look like that, although maybe the rest of the seal is just hard to see. I think as long as you can see some kind of seal you are ok. JMO, but if you are not sure check with the DO or call the 1-800 number and ask them what it should officially look like.
The passport/post office lady took my certificate today without question so she was happy with the seal.;)

I got passport (book and card) already so I assume it is OK.

I can imagine this thread sent quite many to get their certificate to check if the seal is there or not

I am glad it is fixed. But I had read on here and BOBSMYTH can shed light, people have applied for their "proof of Certificate of Citizenship".
Some people apply for it even when they got the Nat. Cert.

I think you should schedule an Infopass to get your certificate examined. Please let us know what they tell you. I would say that if the seal is only in the photo, but not the certificate someone might think it is a fraudulent certificate.

PS: There is an element of tongue in cheek in my recommendation.

 Well, I didn't want to start a mad panic about seals on certificates, but I have never heard of them mentioned on here till it happened to me!

I know for sure though had I read this post myself from someone else I would have been digging my cert out to check.

I mean what happens 10 years from now when you may have to show your certificate and it doesn't have a seal. What could they do! What WOULD they do....

:D

If they suspected it might be fraudulent I guess they would make you pay the money and get a new one.

As if I didn't have enough to worry about NID! :D Ah well, nothing I can do but wait and see if I get a passport or a reject. <sigh>

Yes, you can apply for a replacement naturalization certificate via N-565 form. If there is a mistake on certificate due to USCIS, then the fee may be waved. Otherwise, you must pay the fee for a replacement certificate.

Hi NID,

With no visible seal on the photograph I took of my Certificate before applying for the passport, the check was cashed and today the passport arrived.

Maybe the seal is no longer an important part and not done by all DOs.

WW2G, That is fantastic. Did you apply for expedited passport? I did and yet I still have not received the passport. The website say's it's being processed. I tell you, I have some of the worst luck when it comes to getting things processed in a normal timely manner!

:D
