HELP! No ID, lost Alien Card n Need to file I-90 and N-400

In cases like Katrina, people get assistance from authority (gov agencies). I am quite sure affidavit from neighbor, friends relative etc. will do the trick.

In OP brother case, it is his mistake.

And, yes if you lose your papers after naturalization is it quite possible that you will run into same issue. It all depends upon extent of damage (#/type of paper lost).

Well, then it seems one should have many IDs as possible and placed them
at several places and do not discard old expired IDs

my bro actually kept his old school ID in his wallet but unfortunately it was with the wallet that was stolen in the hotel.

I hope that the school is willing to provide him another school ID even tho he does not go there anymore.

well,,,we would go to US embassy but in Hawaii its in Oahu Island, and my bro is from Maui, which he still need an ID to get into the airport.

I meant the country u are from embassy.....so you could apply for a new passport and then go from there. I think you can apply by mail also but first you need to find out if the birth certificate is enough to get a new passport.

Agree.

I still have all my old ID's . passport, DL, EAD etc ... I even have ID from school (1996) :) ..

I have also scanned all current papers (GC, passport DL etc) and placed in online email account. Just in case.

US embassy? Did you mean the embassy of your brother's country, which is located in the US?

It may not be necessary to physically visit the embassy of your brother's country. For my country I can replace or renew my passport by sending notarized documents and notarized photos along with an original birth certificate via mail or courier to the consular office. Google for your country's consulate, they probably have a web site with phone numbers and/or information on how to replace a lost passport.

Yes i did have a drivers license before 9/11. And no unfortunately my brother has a copy of his passport from school but for some reason the school did not photocopy the page where his alien card# was printed in along with the stamped of i-1551, cuz the school i went did for me and i got really lucky they did, cuz my attorney said that made it alot easier to replace my green card or prove that i am a permanent resident here.

So are you saying the in case of your brother you don't even know his A-number?

oops i misunderstood, well, then i better start looking for that country's embassy's phone# so I can call them and see what they need from my bro to get things replace.

Can they do anything from birth certificate only? i'm afraid they'll need A# but then i guess i'll try it anyways.

Correct....he does not know his A#.

I just learned mine this past March when I called my past school and i had them overnight it to me and brought it to my attorney right away.

Other countries usually don't care about A#, as that is a US-specific concept. They'll want to know other things like the passport number of the old passport (which I hope your brother has).

Birth certificate alone almost surely won't be sufficient. But it can probably be done with a birth certificate plus notarized affidavits from certain individuals who attest to knowing the applicant. Given your brother's unusual situation, you may need to insist on speaking to a more senior official at the consulate if the person who initially answers the phone is uncooperative or puzzled.

Even though you can soon obtain a US passport, if your country allows dual citizenship you should also look into getting a passport of that country for yourself if you plan to also keep that citizenship, so you don't run into another no-document scenario with them in the future.

I heard some coountries and USA have consular agreement that oblige thse countries's consulate not to issue or renew passport to theri citizens who do not have legal status in the USA

But those other countries still really don't care about A#, they want to see actual documents (or at least copies) showing proof of legal status.

Yes my bro has a Passport # that he can read from the photocopy from school.
And no, I only want to be a US citizen, i have no plan of doing dual citizen.

Really? That is very unlikely. If a person wanted to leave US and come back home how would that person do it without a valid passport? Can you provide a link?

Im sure you can go to your country's consulate website and find the information you need to get a new passport, I think that is probably the easiest route right now for him.

Im confused about losing documents and not being able to replace them easier, if I lose my GC and DL, SS it means I will be pretty much in this same situation? another thing, does he knows his SS#? Immigration Services might be able to help him with his ss# and his old passport, even if he was only 1 in the pic.

Hmm. The I-90 form specifically asks for an A-number and it is not clear to me if it can be approved without supplying one.

Does your father have any paperwork (such as I-485 receipt and/or approval notices) related to getting green cards for you and your brother? No burglar would have taken that. If the dog ate it, your father could file a Freedom of Information/Privacy Act request with USCIS and request a complete copy of his own A-file. Copies of relevant documents regarding his application for yours and your brother's green cards might conceivably be there.

Regarding renewing a foreign passport, it is certainly a good idea to try to do that since your brother may be able to use a foreign passport as a proof of identity instead of a state id or a driver's licence.

You'd need to find the specific rules for passport renewal from the nearest consulate for your country of citizenship. This rules vary from country to country. For example, I myself am a citizen of Russia, and Russia does require a copy of a document confirming legal status in the U.S. when you are renewing a Russian passport.

BTW to fly INSIDE USA, you DONT need to have an ID.

If you do not have an ID , you will have to go through secondary screening at the airport EVERYWHERE. Maybe you may even need to be interviewed by FBI or someone.
This is a secret TSA doesnt want you to know.
There was a TV article here sometime back in which they profiled a person who does not want to show his ID at the airport - there are some people who are like that.

So the OP's brother can get to another island.

But I find it suspicious - other than birth cirtificate he has no other info on himself.

when you apply for job in this country, they have to note down your A#, if they do not, THEY will get into trouble when immigration folks do checks.

- So.. OP's brother should be able to get A# from his school, employment etc.

I also find it suspicious that his has no other papers - come on EVERYONE saves I-765s etc , if not the original, the copies.
The attorney should have those, so does USCIS.

My company's immigration deptt has all those.
I also have several copies of my GC and I have put them at different places in my home.

I have also save my previous expired DL - once when I had lost my DL, I had taken my cancelled(expired) DL to them and they immediately gave me a new one.

yes he knows his ss#, but he can't even apply to replace the card without an ID. And no the immigration he went to told him, he needs an ID with his picture on it.

My attorney sent a copy of my copied passport from school with the alien # printed on the passport along with the stamped of i-1551 on it. It obviously worked cuz now I have an Alien Card that i will have to give up August 21 '09 when i take my Oath Ceremony.
I don't know why the Burglar took those papers, and i don't see why my dad would lie about that either, those papers were on a cabinet along with jewelry's and some cash, I assumed they just swiped it along.

Does your dad have his GC with him? when you guys entered the country (USA) you were minors so I'm sure there has to be some information about you two in his file, so that might be another way of finding out.

Please read other post and maybe you will understand it better, I have mention above all that my bro has, including what school had record of him.
There is no reason to lie at all here, what happened happened unfortunately, and good for you that you have all these copies, but unfortunately we didn't tho we now know and trust me, i did make many copies of my green card when i got it, and my drivers license and also have my expired drivers license. Now we know. We didn't think of these when we were younger.

Not everyone obviously did, cuz my dad didn't save i-765 either that or it was stolen too, and I don't even know what i-765 is. I only know i-90 and n400, and i-1551 lol, cuz so far those are the term i came across for me so far. I'm the eldest of my siblings and its my youngest bro that i'm trying get some help.
