Process Breakdown Please

I have looked but have not found a simple breakdown of the citizenship process. There are a lot of abbreviations used on the site that I do not know what they mean because I don't know what the process is. Can someone please list the process for me?

I know it starts with sending in the N400 application. After that I don't know what happens until you get an interview. After that I am lost again.

Assuming everything is smooth, then you see teh following sequence
(those X.1 X..2 X.3 inside X may folow random order and for some DOs (7),(8),(9) can be done on the same day)

(1) Send in N400 with photos copy of GC and a check

(2)
(2.1)Check cashed
(2.2) NOA recived
(2.3) Online status established

(3) Received fingerprinting notice

(4) go to ASC to do you r fingerpriting

(5)
(5.1) Interview letter received
(5.2) Yellow letter received

(6) Go to interview

(7) Get the oath letter

(8) Go to the oath

Thanks again. I am confused what is the1st letter you receive after sending in the application, before you get the fingerprint notice?

Basically, all correct, except that not everybody gets the yellow letter, (5.2), which, as I understand it, is basically a checklist of things to bring to the interview. I did not receive a yellow letter, and four of my colleagues, who had their interviews on the same day as I did, did not receive yellow letters either. My feeling is that whether or not a yellow letter is sent out depends on the practices of specific DOs.

The yellow letter is sent from NBC. So it should be a national standard nowadays. Maybe sometimes the IO think everything needed is there in the
application so there is no need to send a yellow letter even they can send one saying you need to bring a drive license

Interesting. It may also be that it is a relatively recent practice to send the yellow letter to every applicant. My application was filed in Dec 2006, before NBC was established and it was filed with the Nebraska Service Center, which also assigned me the case number. If I remember correctly, my interview letter also came from the Nebraska Service Center.

Even my yellow letter came from NBC, but some have reported that their yellow letter came from the local DO.

Also you will get an idea if you look at the signatures of the people who have finished their citizenship process.
