Please help! Received a reschedule notice two days before the original interview date

My interview was originally scheduled for next Monday - July 27th, I was eagerly waiting for the big day, today I received a letter from USCIS rescheduling the interview for August 25th. Notice date on the reschedule letter was 07/23 (Thursday), post marked on 07/24 (Friday) and I received it on 07/25 (Saturday).

See how close the dates are, if they mailed it one more day latter, I would have showed up for the interview without knowing about this letter.

If anybody waiting for their interview on July 27th and received a similar letter please let me know.

I am really not that disappointed about the reschedule, but worried it could turn into a bigger problem, like missing A-file. Since they are giving me a new interview date as well (as opposed to just cancel the interview without a new date), I am guessing it could be a problem with lack of staff or over scheduling for that day.

Should I just show up for the interview and see what happens (maybe they can provide more details on the reason for rescheduling)? Or just wait and attend the interview on August 25th?

Any insights and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Won't hurt to show up and see what happens....

Is the original interview date before your 5-year GC anniversary (or 3-year, if you are applying based on marriage to a US citizen)? That is a common reason for rescheduling, although for some people in that situation they have the interview anyway without rescheduling and then the oath is done after the 5-year/3 year mark.

Jackolantern,

I applied based on 5-year rule, and the original interview date is after 5-year anniversary.

What I understood from the other posters whose interview was cancelled/rescheduled, the reschedule notice said something like 'your interview is cancelled/rescheduled for unforeseen reasons'. But in my case reschedule notice is exact copy of the original interview letter with a new date for interview and it is printed on a plain white sheet (as opposed to USCIS standard stationery with water marks). This may not mean anything, just an observation.

If you do decide to go to your original interview, just make sure to bring a copy of your N-400 with supporting documents. Either they will allow you to proceed with the interview or tell you to come back when they receive your A# case files from NBC.

Bobsmyth, and NovaCitizen - thank you for your response.

I attended my interview today, as per the original interview date/time, at 1:20 PM. The clerk who was collecting interview letters at the first window asked me why did I come today after receiving interview cancellation notice in first week of July and a reschedule notice last week. In fact I never received the cancellation notice, so our conversation revolved around the missing cancellation notice. It seems my A# case files didn't arrive at Newark DO until first week of July, hence the cancellation notice, I think it is fair to assume that DO sends interview cancellation notice if the case files do not arrive until 3 or 4 weeks to the original interview date. They sent me reschedule notice last week after the files arrived at their office. Since I am already there today, and my wife's interview is also scheduled for today, the clerk told me that they would try to accommodate my interview today. She came back after few minutes and confirmed that my interview will be taken today. Everything went well and we took the oath with the last batch at 4 pm.

I will post our interview experience on a separate thread.
