Divorce before or after green card?

We have been married 3 years. My wife came here on a K1 visa. Divorce is a frightening subject and that is why I have endured this long. We have no children and my wife now has an income and documented financial assets. We have touched on the subject of divorce but she definitely wants her green card. We have not had our final interview.

Q: What are the positives and negatives for divorce both before and after the green card and how will it effect each of us?

I now strongly advocate premarital councelling!

Will she have to go back if she fails to get a GC?
What is the negatives of her getting the GC first? Any info is appreciated...

I never thought my life would take this path. I Hope this is help for others as well.

She came to the US 3 years ago and she still does not even have a conditional green card? Or are you referring to her unconditional 10 year green card?

Will she have to go back if she fails to get a GC?
What is the negatives of her getting the GC first?

I just know we have an interview coming up soon.

She has turned down my offer of counceling but I intend to go myself to get a second opinion of my viewpoint on the matter.

Thanks for your view.

3years? it is taking so long.....

You wife does not have two years GC yet? Coming to US on K1-visa?
After 3 years of marrige life? When did she apply for her GC?
Did you help her to check the status of her application?

It is good that you guys are finally having the interview soon.

What kind of counselor are you going to see?
Many of relationship counselors do not know about GC or
foreigner's residential status in US. They may be able to give you
advice about your marrige life but don't expect that you can have
advices that immigration lawyers can give you.

If she does not have 2 years GC yet and you decided not to go interview with her or withdraw the application, she has to get out from US, I think.

Some people affraid of couple counseling because they think the counselor
will make a judgement against her or him.
Why don't you guys see difefrent counselors?
You may let your wife pick her counselor by herself.
She may feel more confortable and may be honest to the counselor
if it is the one she have chosen and you are not in the setting.

Look for counselors who has oversea experience or who is from oversea.
