Travelling on RTD

Hello folks, I am new here on this forum and I found this forum very informative and helpful. As I was going through several threads I couldn't find answer for my questions so I decided to start a new thread. Following are my questions.

1) I was granted asylum by IJ in 2007, Applied for I-485 NSC receipt day 02/08, Received a fingerprint notice after 2 weeks and that was the last thing I heard from them. Based on your personal experience what is the normal processing time to get your GC

2) My second and most question is that I have a family emergency due to which I have to travel to Bahrain off-course not my COP. Now the problem is that they do not accept RTD. I have no choice but to renew my national passport in order to get the visa and return to USA on RTD, is it possible to do that OR I have to face difficulty by the immigration authorities in Bahrain or USA while entering. And secondly will be any consequences (Greencard) If I renew my NP. I have not been back for 9 years and waiting for another year or so will not make a huge difference but due to my mom's health condition I really have to go. Please advice me on this as what to do or what would be the best way to handle this situation. Thank you all for your time and help.

Dont renew your NP if you are still an asylee. I understand your needs to travel and visit your mother, however the situation you are in doesn't give you much flexibility. You told the USCIS that your COP persecuted you...now you can't go back and say ok I can use my NP just because I had to.

Now you may choose to renew your NP and go and get all the evidence about your trip and it was a true emergency. No one can guarantee you that you will be ok while coming back or during your I-485 adjustment.

I didn't see my mother for over 12 years back in the day when getting a GC was taking over 7-8 years. So bite the bullet and don't visit her. If you don't care about your status and your adjustment..take the risk and hope for the best.
 
You would be taking a very huge risk here, I believe. You were only granted Asylum a little over a year ago and now you are going back to that country that you wanted protection from within a little over 12 months. While nobody can say for sure how this will play out for you, I think the timeline is too close for you to explain visitng your COP so soon after asylum grant, away. Can your family meet you in a different country?

Thankyou guys for your suggestions.But Iam not travelling to my COP, As I mentioned in my post Iam travelling to a country which is not my COP. But I got the point that even renewing my NP will might raise issues for me. Thankyou and I will try avoid it as much as possible. Let's hope for the best !!!
 
Passport Renewal

I have been reading ur post. You can renew your NP based on the facts that certain countries will not issue visa's or accept RTD. However, do not use it to visit COP and have it renewed in the United States. When you return back to the U.S, use your RTD and if asked by IO at port of entry where you visited tell him or her and show your NP. If required tell them the reason you had to use NP.

I was in same situation in the past. I renewed my NP as Asylee based on those grounds and I have my GC now.

Thankyou for replying. I have sent you a PM If you can look at it and kindly guide me in this regard. Your help is really appreciated . BTW I just got my RTD in the mail this morning in 3 weeks.Regards.

I am sure your asylum approval letter clearly says you can only travel with RTD but if you have are a LPR then you can risk to renew your NP. If you ask me dont renew for now.

few years ago before i got my green card, i had to renew my NP,

I WANted to kuwait for personal reasons, as you know middle eastern countries do not recognize refugee travel documents , so i renewed my passport and i went to kuwait,
myself iam a middle eastern

after i came back from kuwait, there was no problems at the american airport
and later i got my green card without problems

THankyou for reply John. Just curious when you arrived in kuwait did they stamped you NP or RTD as visa was issued based on your NP. Also where you given any hardtime by Kuwaiti authorities on your way back to US. And what was your port of entry in US if you dont mind. Appreciated

kuwait visa is just piece of paper written in arabic, i left fro san franciso airport, i showed my visa to the airline employee, he could not understand any
thing because it was written in arabic,
i flew to kuwait and when i arrived i showed them my NP, THE VISA WAS issed based on my NP, in addition they dont accept travel document
it was easy entry,

when i left kuwait, i showedthe airline employee my refugee travel document
at the beginning he could not understand it, he had to go and ask his supervisor, he came back and said there is no problem

then i went through the immigration before i leave, i showed them my NP
tHEY STAMPED IT without any question,

when i arrived to SFO, I SHOWED THEM MY TRAVEL DOCUMENT, and because i did not have green card at that time , i had to go for second inspection,

they stamped my travel document and let me go

But your RTD at that time didn't carry any Kuwait entry stamp, did the US officer ask to see the stamps on NP?
 
US immigration, just like other immigration authorities, know that a stamp is not always given. Don't worry about that.
 
correct me if I'm wrong, I don't know any country that will allow you to enter its lands without stamping your passport / travel document... even if you were a citizen of that country.

Can I leave USA with a clean "new, without stamps" RTD, then return to USA with the same clean RTD? the US officer might wonder "where did you travel?" "Kuwait!"
He will say "where is the entry stamp?"

will I say "ooops it's in my NP"

The officers only worry about if you can be admitted to the united states. They dont really look for stamps UNLESS you tell them you were gone for 2 weeks but in reality you were gone for 7 months. I usually go on a RP and show my NP on entry. MY NP has no entry stamps. Last time the officer asekd to see my RP since he wanted to verify that it wasnt the lost one as reported in the system. He did flip through the RP and saw visas..he didnt even bother to look. He did ask me why If I had gone over 6 months.

If you don't lie, you are all ok!!

What do they ask in a second inspection ? how long does it take ?

In that case, you don't know the United States, which doesn't always stamp passports. I just entered the EU via France last week, and they weren't even paying attention and let me in. NO STAMP. In fact, when an EU citizen enters or leaves the EU, their passports are not stamped. The IO at a US POE may have information of your travel in advance. In any case, chances are you'll be fine.
