Hi there,
I have a question regarding entering the US on a B1/B2 visa with the intent to marry and then leave again.
My fiance and I have been dating for two years, and we would like to get married. He holds a B1/B2 visa and has been to visit me in the US three times (we have met up many more times than that). He is employed full-time on a contract in the UK, and I am finishing off my masters and will move to there to be with him after I graduate in May.
We would like to marry in the US when he visits me for two weeks in April. The person I spoke to at the US Citizens & Immigration phone line said that it is perfectly legal for him to enter on a B1/B2 tourist visa with the intent to marry and then leave afterwards. I called the Customs and Border Patrol people to ask about documentation for entering the country but was not able to get through.
I am hoping for some advice on what to do at the port of entry. Should he declare that he is coming to marry and leave immediately afterwards? If so, what documentation he should bring with him to prove that he will leave the US at the end of his two week stay. How can we prove to the border patrol that he does not intend to stay in the US after marriage? If he doesn't declare that he is coming for marriage and we get married, will the marriage be suspect at a later time (when we want to move to the US and have it legally recognized) because we did not declare our intent?
Most of the threads on this forum seem to be about people who have entered and then decided to marry, or people who have come for marriage and then wish to stay in the US, but we have no desire to do that, we simply want to get married, then he will leave and I will move to the UK a month later.
Thanks for your help.
