1 ,2 Answer is NO dont do that Get Good Lawyer because some time they have to make some story to attach with u r Applycation .. Get Some Good One Who is is gOOD In Asylum Case.

This is my experience (i.e I will let the decision for you)

I did it all by myself. I was very careful about my case. But it was tough. Preparing convincing affidavit, supporting documents and testimonies from friends back in COP was a pain. It took me too much time to file my case. But i was lucky enough to get approved within six weeks of filing.

But if you failed to convince the asylum officer at the interview and your case is send to IJ(immigration court), there is no other option. You must have a lawyer. But it is going to be tough for the lawyer to make sense out of the mess. So better to have lawyer at earlier stage.

But i can't stress more: if you are going for a lawyer, get a GOOD IMMIGRATION LAWYER not lame lawyer. I have friends who spent much $$$$ on lawyers just get screwed up even up to Federal Court. These BS lawyers, they don't have time for you, makes you write your won case, the don't carefully review your documents for consistency etc. They were just BS. So be careful on what type of lawyer you getting, if any.

It's all up to you. Make the decision out of your situation(i.e. education, asylum base, friends, availability of concrete supporting docs from COP,nature of work etc)

If you double think on any of these, strongly recommend having a GOOD IMMIGRATION LAWYER!

Good luck!

Asylum is tricky. You have to prove your case. From my personal experience, I applied for asylum in Immigration court without a lawyer not because I was smart but because I could not afford it. I did extensive research. Also, many attorneys in my area offer free initial consultation. So I would make appointments with them to discuss my case so that I could have an idea as to how to approach my case.

You have to be confident. A friend of mine who had a much more stronger case than I did and his case got rejected because he could not present his case properly.

If you have the resources, I would recommend a knowledgeable attorney on your side.

It depends

Hi,
To answer your question, I think it depends on cases. My cousin was approved without the help of an attorney, he even went to the interview by himself.
I advise to do what your heart tells you to do, if you think that having a lawyer is secured for you go ahead.
You got to believe what you do and never be negative no matter what,

hey somewheoutthere

The first and most credible affidavit is your own testimony during the IJ hearing. If your testimony is found thrust-worthy, consistent and credible you are done. The judge will be convinced. Whatever little supporting documents you may have, be consistent to the facts mentioned in those documents during your testimony. Also make sure you have good witnesses, they can be a replacement for you luck of supporting written documents...

Also try to get evidences supporting that communications in your COP is monitored.(this con be Internet sources, similar cases presented for other IJ, your friends written affidavit, state department country report etc)..

Remember your and your witnesses testimony and answer to the Judge, Attorney and your Lawyer(if any) is the most important deciding factor for you case.

Also be careful with you witnesses(if you have any). I have a friend who was denied asylum by the judge because his witness messed up the day he was imprisoned. On the day the witness testified the guy was in prison, where as the written affidavit says he was in hiding.

Best of luck!

Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone has been in a situation where he / she was unable to present any corroborating evidence other than 'general country conditions'. I have my individual hearing coming up soon and I can't get any affidavits showing my persecution because communication is monitored by the government in my COP and I'm afraid of placing my family at risk. My asylum claim is legit, but I'm a little worried that the primary evidence is going to be my testimony and country reports that I was able to get from the internet.
Any input /suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Can you get newspaper clippings?

i went to the interview by my self, i had no lawyer, i did not have any proofs,
just country conditions from newspapers and human rights reports,

i was denied, my case was referred to the immigration judge, i had to hire a lawyer to represent me, ,my court hearings lasted 2 years,

eventually mt case was denied by the immigration judge,

i appealed my case to the BIA, THE APPEAL LASTED anothe 2 years,

finally i was granted asylum by the BIA

Thank you

Hi everyone,

I'd just like to thank everyone for responding to my post...I really appreciate your support. Yes, I do have newspaper clippings / country condition reports to support my claim. I 'll go ahead and make the best of what I have.
I'll be sure to keep you all posted. Again, thank you.:)

Evidence

Hey Somewhereouthere,
It would be good if you could get some kind of expert witness that could either give you an affidavit or testify on your behalf about the conditions in your country. I think the answer is yes you can do it without a lawyer but it is better if you have one especially since you do not have too much supporting stuff.
