I got my green card through employment in Oct 04. I know i will be eligible for citizenship sometime in July 09. After i got my green card in 04, i also got my canadian PR. but i never travelled out of US, nor visited canada, gave up my canadian PR. Stayed in the US every day since 04. Maintained residences, paid taxes, fulfilled all obligations and never travelled out of US even for a day, and never crossed any borders too !

Question is : when i go to apply for US Citizenship will they ask about the canadian PR stamp on my passport and will it cause any issue when applying for US Citizenship.

Thanks in advance for any feedback , comments.

How did you get Canadian PR stamp? you said you never visited Canada but you got landing paper? right?

For US citizenship, there is no issues at all. :)

Help Please....Question on Applying for Citizenship

Yes. I did get the Landing paper when i was in US. But i surrendered it right away and decided to keep only my US GC.

Let me know if you have any more questions and i really appreciate your help. Its a relief !!! :-)

You are welcome. It won't affect your applying for US citizenship. IO doesn't care about your foreign residency status (ie. Canadian residency, British residency, etc.). Only rule is if you have a Canadian residency and US residency (green card), you cannot have both and you have to surrender one of them. Anyways, you can apply in July 2009. I had Canadian landing papers and landed there (got stamp on my passport) before I got my US green card, but didn't move there since I got a job (my employer sponsored me for my US green card) so not awhile ago I applied for US citizenship and now became a US citizen without any problem. :)

The IO will care about your residency status in a foreign country if the time you physically resided there interferes with the physical presence or continuous residency requirement for naturalization.

Help Please....Question on applying for citizenship.

I really dont know how to thank you guys.. :-) Seriously....I was a nerve wreck just thinking about the stamp...

But from is said here, it looks like i should be fine.. as i never even left my state to another one after i got my GC. So, i think no worries.

Thank you so very much and i really really appreciate your feedback.

Greatest Regards.

I agree with you, Bobsmyth.

sanjay73, you will be fine.

Thanks Bobsmyth and USGC485. I appreciate your help.I'll be a frequent visitor to this forum closer to my application date.

Also i have another question: do we have to hire a lawyer or do we have to do everything on our own ? what are your suggestions :)

If you have a simple case, save the lawyer fees and do it yourself.
