My Wallet Was Stolen Today And Inside My Greencard. I Am Applying For Naturalization And I Am Wondering If It Is Worth Paying Almost $ 400 To Get It Replaced When I Might Become A Citizen In A Few Months. Is There A Document That I Could Get That Could Stand For The Green Card When I Go For The Interview? Will A Police Report Sufffice?
Please Help

I am afraid there will be no other option for you to replace your Green Card, as it is a requirement document as part of your N400 process. I think consider it is part of your future live, any cost is worth it.

You may want to do an Infopass first to ask about this since it can take several months to receive a replacement green card and you may not receive it in time for your interview.

Yes, Infopass might be useful. Perhaps you might be able to convince them to stamp your passport, although I've heard they are more reluctant to stamp passports nowadays, due to their inherent lack of fraud protection features. I agree with you that if you are about to naturalize you would better avoid the expense.

To order to process your N-400 you should have your unexpired GC in hand.In your case you should file I-90 and if by the time of oath ceremony your GC is not manufactured, they will accept your I-90 receipt.Even if GC is present but expired you still need to give them prove of applying for replacement and they won't accept the expire one.Over all it is all about money.

Thank you guys for your responses. I have scheduled an infopass for 9/2. But yes, my main worry is that even if I do apply for the new green card I might not get it on time for the interview. this really sucks:mad:
Do you think they might not interview me just for that?

MH I just read your response, thank you. proof of filling should be OK you think? I' ll do the infopass thing and see what they say. but you're right, it is gonna cost me money. My husband will kill me I swear. first the traffic tickets, now this:mad:

That's the reason it was suggested to take the Infopass; to specificaly ask USCIS that question.

While you are there for Infopass, if you are not satisfy with their answer go ahead and ask for the supervisor. They should tell you how to proceed. make sure and ask them to write the instruction down so later one they can deny what they said.

Good Luck

I think they might require you to report your stolen card to the police since it was stolen which might be a good idea at the moment.

Hello guys,
Thank you all for your responses! The Lord has blessed me. My green card was returned to me. Yes! Can you guys believe it? Someone " found" it and recognized the "WIC lady" on the picture. ( I work for WIC and see a whole lot of weird people)
So anyways, after all the unpleasant time in the 48 precinct, and the phone calls to lawyers, I had the pleasure of cancelling my infopass.
I am back to worrying about my traffic violation tickets. :)
still awaiting the interview letter
Thank you all
