Hi,

I recently became US PR.
Previously, I had Canadian PR and now i am eligibile to apply for Canadian citizenship.

If I become Canadian citizen, does it impact my US Citizenship chances?

Thanks

You had Canadian PR? You cannot apply for Canadian citizenship if you had PR status. You must have valid Canadian PR status until the day you take your oath. You have lived in Canada for 3 out of the last 4 years right?

The answer is no issues about impacting on US citizenship. Only issues if you have a US green card and Canadian PR (you cannot have both to maintain).

Just curious. Why do you want to apply for Canadian citizenship if you already applied for US citizenship?

I have a question that somebody in this forum may be able to answer.

I became Canadian PR in 2000 and canadian citizen in 2003. I had meanwhile applied for US PR, which I got in 2004. Since then I maintain my US PR and I now intend to apply for US citizenship. Do you see any complication towards US citizenship because of the canadian?

thanks in advance

If you still have to spend a significant amount of time in Canada to maintain your Canadian citizenship eligibility, then yes it may affect your chances of US citizenship. But for US citizenship they are generally only concerned about the last 5 years of traveling, so if you wait until 5 years after your last long stay in Canada, the time in Canada would be out of that 5-year window and would no longer affect your US citizenship.
