Hi Guys,

Today we received a call from CGI-NY that our son's birth certificate is missing.

Imagine if I would not have called or followed up they would NEVER have informed us.

Do they need incentive to do their jobs? bonuses? arent the 18 days holidays + weekends off not enough?

This is so shameful behavior.

Please make sure you add all the documents that you can think of even if not asked in the list.

govt departments are the same everywhere. it doesnt matter developed or devloping.they have thousands of documents in their file and yours is one of them. yes just like cis. i think ultimately it is easier to get it done in indian embassy than cis.let us see what others say

The missing doc won't delay the process by much. As soon as you send it, the ACK and printing will be done. I think they would have eventually contacted you to ask for it in a week or two.

My understanding of the process is that US consls are basically collection agencies. They just send the paperwork to Delhi and keep a copy with them without checking if everything is correct. So when the Del folks do the processing they discover the missing stuff and then ask for it but they have already started the groundwork and can complete the visa printing in a couple of days.

1. Is this for OCI or PIO or visa?
2. Is Birth Certificate photocopy a document stated in the requirement of the application form to be sent along for OCI application? Do folks here send that usually? (I'll go read up on the reqmts, but asking to double check with folks here)

Re. 2: Yes, we sent the copies of our children's birth certificates. How else would you prove relationship of a foreign-born child (who never held Indian passport) to an OCI-eligible parent?

akgarg,

Thanks, and Sorry for the confusion. I meant do "adult" OCI applicants who held an Indian passport and recently converted to Naturalized US Citizen - do they need to send birth certificate copy or just Indian passport copy is sufficient?

A copy of Indian passport is sufficient - no birth certificate is needed.
