Hi All

We have been married for 3 years. My wife's citizenship interview is on 24th June. We also plan to change her last name to mine on that day. If everything goes well then she will file for my Greencard the next day, 25th June. So we have prepared all documents which have her current last name. I guess in I-130 we have to use her new last name but all supporting documents have her old last name? We can write a note with I-130 mentioning this. Also USCIS will know this by checking her A number, naturalization number etc.

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

My suggestion is not to change the surname. I have never understood why spouses feel the need to take each other's surname. However this is a personal issue. If your wife wants to change her name, she should update her N-400 at her interview and take care of it then.

Thanks Triple Citizen. My wife already mentioned in her N-400 that she wants to change name. But the issue is that her interview is on Next Tuesday and now we are preparing docs for MY GreenCard application. All the docs have her current last name but we want to use her new last name in I-130. So USCIS will see one last name for the Sponsor and another last name in all documents.

Any suggestion?

Well wait until she gets her naturalisation certificate in her new name. Then fill in a new I-130 using her new name.

Thanks Triple Citizen. Then I guess I-130 with new last name and supporting documents with old last name will not be a problem as long as marriage certificate and naturalization certificates are included. I called USCIS customer service and the guy told me the above point, although I have very little faith on them ;)
