Hi all;
My latest job shop is proposing I change from Sci - Tech category which I have been on for 11 years to a CSA TN which I have been denied twice at the WA/BC border.
They feel since I have the 2 yr diploma and the 3 yrs experience there "should not be a problem".

Does the 3 years have to be gained before the first TN, like back in Canada, or can my US work experience count?

I'm very leery about this we're doing a mail-in but still I seem to remember reading somewhere long ago that the 3 years experience had to be prior to entering and working in the US.

Thanks,
Ken Grierson

The experience can be from US.

Where previous experience does not count is for labour certification.

Where you *might* run into trouble is that since your were on Sci Tech TN and not CSA, how would your Sci Tech experience count as CSA experience.

In other words: can you accumulate CSA experience when you aren't working as a CSA?

Thanks Nelson and you are correct about that issue. It is a HUGE concern for me and one that the job shop has ignored just like they ignored my original request to do the same, hugely successful, Sci-Tech application.
I'm getting too old for this BS I have to retrain people about TN's every year now I'm about ready to pack up and move back to Canada.....:(

I guess you could dip your toe into the H1 pool diploma plus experience equals bachelors.

Maybe 2 years ago but not since it's become next to impossible to get one. Next year the 3 year TN should be available I'll hang out and wait for that change then see where the jobs take me.

Yup. You don't seem headed for GC anytime soon, so a 3-year TN has no disadvantage over H1.
