My mom was scheduled for her interview today at Chicago DO. My dad was scheduled for tomorrow but I requested the receptionist if she can ask an IO to take my dad's interview today as well since we have to drive 50 miles each way. She called the IO and luckliy my dad was checked in today as well.

Chicago DO staff was really nice and helpful to us, and treated us really good as well. My dad's application is approved and he was told he will be recieving his oath letter within 2 weeks. Just a normal interview, 6 civic questions, 1 english sentence to read and write and went over the YES/NO questions from N-400. Finally she asked if something was changed after he applied for N-400 which in my dad's case was none.

Unfortunately, my mom did not pass the english test as she is not too good in speaking/ understanding english. She did pass the civic questions, was able to write the sentence but she did not get the YES/NO part from the application and was told by the IO that she will be re-interviewed after 60 days and should get another interview date notice within next month. IO told her that she will just go over the N-400 app again and that should do it. She was a lil disappointed but I will prepare her for the next time.

I got there 2o minutes before our scheduled time (2:20 PM) and were called in about half hour. My interview is scheuled on April 17th, I will post my experience as well. Overall, it went well and no problems faced.

P.S. Some information about timeline, I would like to share with all of you. May this will give you some comfort. My uncle applied for his naturalization in March 2008 for him and his family. They all got their interview letters today and they are scheduled for June 24th. One of my friend applied for his mom and he got her interview notice today as well. She is scheduled for June 17th.

Thanks to all of you who helped me in one way or the other. GOD bless all of you and may your journey comes to end soon.

I feel bad for your mom.... she should not be sad about this. It is just a matter of 60 days. Good luck brother for the next time... she will make it for sure.

^Thanks GhantaBro, I am sure she will get it next time. Its just that she was working on the test stuff so hard since past couple months that its hard for her to start the prep again.

Your uncle and family applied last month and already got interview letter for June? Wow, that's super fast. They also applied at Chicago and theirs is regular application?

Congrats

r00274,

Congrats man. I am sure there must be a good reason why your mom couldn't make it with your dad the other day. Everything happens for the right reasons. Hopefully this 60 day time period will fly by soon. It's just the hassle of driving back to Chicago for the interview, but it will all be over soon.

I wish you all success and pay our regards to your mom & tell her not to be disappointed. It's just another way of God to test His people, that's all.

All the best & thanks for sharing your experience.
