H visa or green card?

Hi all,

Simple question for you.
Why would you go for H visa when you can apply for Green card directly?
Even it is approved, you will start work in OCT.
Green card on the other hand, if EB2 it might take less than that.
So, I would go to green card directly.
Any opinion?

Thank you.

Wrong thoughts, GC processing takes much longer (even without retrogression). An employment based GC is for future job ... that's why this process can be started anytime.

FYI - in order to work in the U.S. an appropriate visa is required. Apart from green card, the viable options are H-1, L-1, TN, J-1, OPT etc. H-1 is quota subjected and the earliest start date is October 1, 2008. If you have another work visa only then you can start without H-1.

well, I can start work as soon as I get work authorization

with EB2, I think it's very possible that work autorization is approved before OCt 1.
what do you think?

Both of apple and orange taste good, but are different things.

By the way, EB2 is slower than H1. YOu can get H1 employees to start working within 6 months, but you can not get GC done within 6 months unless you are on EB1/NIW.
