Can someone on F1 visa fly to other city first and not the airport near campus?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a freind I like to meet as she is coming to US on F1.

I live in M iniaplos and she applied for F1 back there in country at US embassy and her university is in Alabama.

She is to be reported to campus in Alabama late MAY as her oreintation starts.

My question is, Can she fly to my on like May 24, meet me for3 days and then fly from here to alabama to her school and get to campus on time?

Or she has to fly to alabama airport first or she will get int trouble with the US immigration officer?

Or can she fly from her country to alabama airport and then use a domestic ticket from alabama to minniapolis

We are trying to see how we can meet before her class start.

I have no time to fly there!
Also, She intends to apply for asylum once she is in US. Should she do it by dropping class or and what are the chances? She has good case for asylum.

Thaks for ur advice!

She can land anywhere in the United States. The officer at Port of Entry might ask her a few questions but it shouldn't trouble her at all. I know a lot of students who've done the same thing. Their relatives live all over the U.S. As such, they first landed closer to their relatives city, spend a few weeks or days over there and eventually flew into my city.

As far as asylum is concerned, I don't see any reasons why she should drop her decision. It'd be better if she told the immigration officer ( if she were to be questioned about her intentions ) that she is here for pursuing her college degree and didn't reveal anything about Asylum filing...or anything.

Again, I'm a F-1 Student visa holder myself, I don't have any qualification to legally answer the questions that you've raised. All my statements in here are my advices, that's all. :D I'm keenly waiting for the decision on my I-730 myself!

Entering the US on F-1 with the intend to seek asylum is immigration fraud and can lead to all sorts of complications. Lying to an IO is even worse.

So you're saying that an asylum seeker should apply visa saying that s/he's planning to seek asylum after s/he enters the U.S. ?

NSCAGONY,

Fraud? were you cought for fraud when you first came on tourist visa and than applied for asylum, cos you came as tourist visa to usa with intention to seek asylum.

Don't sound such stupid!

There is such thing as a status change. As far as someone apply for asylum, AO wants to see if the person qualifies for asylum, not how one first entered.

But I am still asking others!
