Hello

Please can someone throw light on entry at POE...

1. We have to carry the brown sealed cover right ?
2. What about Medical Reports -Is it inside the brown cover?
3. Any other document we have to carry/ show?
4. Will there be questioning? Can we be denied entry for any reason if answers are not satisfactory?
5. Will they ask to show the itinerary to see if we are going back?
6. Can the address where the GC is to be posted (on brown cover) different from the Port of Entry?

Thanks
Zaman

1. yes
2. probably (I don't know). Take the x-ray with you (does not have to be hand-carried)
3. passport with immigration visa ;-)
4. I don't know
5. I don't think so. In most cases a one-way flight is more expensive than getting a round-trip ticket. So many buy a round-trip ticket but don't use the second half.
6. Of course: Port of Entry is the first airport in US where you land. Many people have to travel further afterwards and take other flights.

1. Yes
2. Yes, it is inside the sealed envelope.
3. Me an my wife bring all the documents embassy returned to us with our passport.
4. There was no questioning at POE for us, just index finger fingerprint and signature.
5. No.
6. Do you mean you are going to live in a different address than the one you gave them for DV process? I read somewhere on this forum that you may change your address at POE if you decided to live in a different address. Check on this.

4. In theory, you are an "applicant for admission" and a Customs and Border Protection officer can use all "tools and techniques" available to him/her, including denial of entry. We had some issues at the POE because of my name matching someone elses who appeared on some watch list (despite having waited for 8 months for administrative processing to be completed, presumably for the same reason) and our experience was not a pleasant one. We spent nearly 5 hours in immigration. In the end, we were NOT admitted but paroled into the US for 30 days (deferred inspection) while they kept our passports. We were given a date to report back to the CBP office at the airport several weeks later. When we reported back several weeks later, we were admitted as permanent residents after providing a signature and a right index finderprint. They didn't ask any other questions.

is there a US Immigration office at the Dublin Airport in Ireland? I don't think there is one.

I only know of the "outside" POEs in Canada.

There is, at Shannon. They have been there since at least 1992 when I went to the US on Aer Lingus.

Yes, in Dublin and Shannon Airport. So as others have said, once you clear immigration in Ireland, you enter the US as if you arrived on a domestic flight so no lining up at immigration desks in the US.

So does anyone have experience with this? I might imagine it takes a bit longer to get the greencard if they first have to mail it back to the US-

where it is mentioned that we have to take and we need the x-rays at POE?

When we received our visas, we also received an information sheet which mentioned to have the x-ray available for inspection but that you were allowed to keep it with your checked luggage for convenience.
