hi,
I am on H-1B with a university. I had never been out of the US since I converted from F-1 to H-1, except recently when I went to Canada, got my H1-B visa stamped at Canada and returned to US. My H-1 visa stamp and the I-94 that they issued when I entered US is valid until May 2008.
Now, I am planning a trip to India in Nov 2007. My question is whether I need to take the original I-797 with me when I travel to India and back. This time when I came back from Canada, I had the original I-797 since I had taken it for my visa application. But I am wondering if I should take it for my India trip as well. As some of you may have already read my other post, it took me a struggle to get the original I-797 from the university even for the visa interview. I would prefer not to go through it again, if it is not needed. So before I ask my university lawyer, I would like to confirm whether we need
the original I-797 to re-enter the US, or would a copy be sufficient?
I am sure many of you gurus would have traveled several times on H-1. Any help would be very useful.
Thanks in advance!
