Currently on H4 - looking for H1 sponsorship.

Hi,
I am currently on H4 visa, moved to the US this May. I have 3 years of work experience and looking for H1 sponsorship. I got in touch with few employers and they say that I will only be able to start working by October 2008. Need to know if this is true, also I am not much aware of how does EAD process go. My spouse is on H1, am I still eligible to apply for EAD? Will appreciate any input on this or suggestions about the other available options if any.

--------------------that is true and if your H1 gets approved, employer can file in April 2008

-------------------NO you are not , one can apply for EAD if last step of GC I-485 is filed and pending
