I am here on F1 visa. Until today I was pretty sure that I was staying here legally. One of my friend's girlfriend (she's a lawyer but not immigrancy) told me that since my wife became a citizen (two days ago) now I am out of status. I really got upset about this. Is this true? Thanks.

I don't see the connection between your wife becoming a USC and you being out of status as a result of that.

Are you still in school and is your visa still current?

Confirming Mr...

Thanks aspapi. Can someone else also confirm, please?

Hyenal...:)

When was ur F1 issued? If you came here as an undergrad and it expires upon completion first degree, then for your Master's degree, your University needed to have issued you an I-20 I believe, to apply for a new F1 which will cover the period of your studies. :)

However, since you are married to your wife, she can file all the necessary paperwork for your Greencard application, you will be fine. Your friend who claims to be a lawyer just want to confuse the dickens out of you. Relax... file for the paperwork and have a peace of mind. An expired F1 while continuing with your studies doesn't protect you from ICE abusive tactics.
To be safe... apply for ur greencard, if you intend to do this as soon as it is feasible...

I did not do my undergrad in USA. I am in the stage of filing now. I am gathering the documents and filling in the forms. Thank you so much.

you are fine. just stay in school and when once you file for AOS, 1-485, then you are declaring an intent of becoming and immigrant and your f-1 status will be deactivated... but until then you are fine.
