RFE for Medical

My 485 was filed back in 2003. I just got an RFE for Medical (specifically for TB skin test). When went to a USCIS civil surgeon for that, he is asking me do the full medical screening once again saying the original medical report is not valid anymore since it is almost 4 years ago. Is it necessary to do the full screening when the RFE is only talking about TB skin test?

Since the doctor has to re-issue the I-693 form, i would think he or she'll have to enter other medical records along with your tb skin test results. to keep the physical exam record updated they'll retest you. but sorry to hear you have to pay all over again!

Just out of curosity, do you know what exactly were they looking for when they sent you the RFE for TB skin test? was it missing your skin test measurements? or something else?

Original surgeon told me at that time, I don't have to do skin test if I directly do the x-ray. So I only did the x-ray at that time, and the result was negative. I am still not clear why they issued RFE now for skin test when the x-ray was negative.

My doctor said the same thing but i insisted that uscis require both the skin test and the xray. Most doctors dont know uscis intricate requirements (they arent lawyers), you have to go through their checklist.

This is a new requirement from the CDC (center of disease control)
and not USCIS from March 2007 for all immigrant with or without normal chest xray.

TB skin test

Ok, TB skin test is a "requirement"... USCIS wants to see whether you had a +ve or a -ve reaction to skin test... Only if there is a +ve reaction, then you will need a chest X-ray. It may sound logical directly to do a chest x-ray, but it certainly appears that USCIS also wants to ensure that these procedural things are followed.

The medical exams are valid for only a year only if you do not submit the results to USCIS Once you submit ALL the results, they are valid until they make a decision, even if it takes 10 years. So, I would say, your doctor is not correct to repeat all the tests.

I assume that you have a copy of the initial form that you submitted. If so, if I were you, I would just ask the doctor to do a skin test and report the test result along with a copy of the old one. The choice is yours.

sorry to hear the doctor goofed up. you have a strong case now. so convince the doctor that based on the current guidelines he/she skipped the skin test and ask them to perform it for no extra charge. rest of the tests such as vaccinations, etc should still be valid including tetaus (up to 10 yrs). the doctor will still have to fill out a new I 693 form and just transfer the old data except now, you'll have to get the tb skin test and if positive then a chest x-ray as well. bottom line is that on the 693 form, USCIS is looking for the measurement of the bump/redness if it reacts after performing the skin test.

good luck. and you have nothing to worry about.
