asylum approved, SSN, help

my asylum was approved in January 2007 and I got a work authorization card and a new I-94 cards immediately
I was supposed to change my social security number but I want to do that in may, does it make any difference when I change my social security number whether immediately after I get the approval for my asylum or after few months? by the way I'm not working yet
I also have another question
since I haven't changed my social security number yet and I'm not working yet so if I change it at the begining of May will that affect my taxes situation?
I'm really confused about this and I desperately need someone to clarify these things for me please as soon as possible.

Why do you want to change your SSN??? Can you even change your ssn?
 
yes, how come you gonna change your SSN?? did you mean you will make the Social Security A. office to remove the note NOT VALID FOR WORK or VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH DHS AUTHORIZATION ??
The number will not change whatsoever.

Taxes situation??? it will not affect you since you always be clear when fiiling the IRS form.
Now that you are able and authorized to work, just keep the record of when you started earning money for the next fiscal year.

Adding to what fasaavedra said, if you get a new ss card without the restriction, you don't need a work permit. Also, you can get the SS card, anytime. They don't care when you get the restriction removed. The benefit is only for you.

By the way, some employees in SS admin don't know that as an asylee you can get an unrestricted SS card, so just print out the info from the SS admin web site and take it with you. My mom who wanted to do that about 3 months ago had to call me from the SS admin office so that I can talk to the emplyee and show her where that info was written on their web site!!!!

If you seek a benifit from any office, always do not limit yourself to one office. Most individuals do not know about many documents; due to this always shop around; go to different offices; different officials; if employee do not understand your papers, ask for supervisor or anyone who has experience with the papers...shop around....

I did go to three different offices, and finally a literate person helped me out.
