My wife completed her Masters in Biology from Wayne State University University, Detroit, in December 2006. She is currently on F-1 OPT until Jan 2008. She already has a Bachelors and a Masters in the same field (Bio/Bio-tech) from India.
She has been looking for jobs in industry and universities, but most of them seem reluctant to sponsor a H1-B unless one has a Ph.D. She is now looking for a job as a school teacher in the San Diego Unified Schools District.
Questions:
1. Does she need to go through a teacher-credentials course? The school district itself does not need this apparently (since they have a severe shortage of teachers, perhaps). If so, how long does this course take to complete?
2. Is she bounded by the H1-B quota (65000+20000) in case of employment by the San Diego Unified Schools District?
3. What else should she consider?
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
