I also got the same card from Mrs. Laura Bush after 2-3 months from my letter to her....In response, received communication from FBI that my namecheck was submitted on so/so date and still pending etc...
Looks like contacting Mrs. Bush only helps in getting to know the status...
Yours is a tricky scenario....You should consult a lawyer....
I have heard of I-140 getting corrected from EB3 to EB2...in those cases the I-485 continues...lot of guys did that....in this forum!

I guess, he is referring to the fact that namecheck demon..pretty much holds off about 20% of the applicants from getting their 485's approved....so if USCIS launches namecheck centralization system, it would increase the traffic of 485 approvals by 20%...but this is still a proposal...God knows...

One of my friend too, thought his application was EB3...when the I-140 approval notice came and he looked it...and it dawned to him...it was indeed EB2!...
I am stuck in namecheck for 1 year +. I also contacted CIS Ombudsman back in Aug and got the same letter recently, saying - I should hear something in 45 days....Though I am not much hopeful...
