I have been on TN for a number of years and I am thinking of going back to Canada. I have an 401k account. Now the question is how do I handle it as I read that US banks will close any account once you leave.
Thanks for any suggestions.
I have been on TN for a number of years. For some reason I have kept my Canadian bank account with about $10000 in a checking account. Recently I read that there is a US law targeting these accounts, requiring one to make disclosures to both IRS and Treasury Department. Anyone knows about this?
therealcanadian,
Many thanks.
No, I did not have an interview at a US consulate. I was privously on TN visa and changed to H1 one year ago. So it's a wonderful I don't need to apply for another visa.
I am a canadian citizen currently holding a H1 visa. I plan to travel to China next month. In order to return to US, do I need to apply for a new H1 visa while in China?
Many thanks,
How about applying TN both at POE and by mail? Or try to apply by mail five months before TN expires, and if any problem arises, rush to the border to fix the problem?
IMHO, the on-going US presidential election has a subtle effect on many border inspectors handling the TN application.
Not to scare anyone, but a friend of my wife who works for US Homeland Security said the agency was developing a contingency plan in case the NAFTA will be re-negotiated.
IMHO, it is too early to tell one way or the other. Obama may or maynot get elected, and if he is elected, how strong is his determination to go through it?
My wife just got her TN visa. The inspection officer did not ask anything. When my wife tried to show him the letter from the lawyer, he just waved her away.
Thank everyone for your help, especially nelsona, CGC, TRC,warlord, sim.
