ok i see everyone with a signature under there post showing some dates and fp and lp and stuff..can someone link me a thread where it shows what each thing stand for or if someone can do it here .. i would like to start my sig too thanx

Here are some to set you up with your own signature:

NOA=Notice of Action
PD=Processing Date
FP=Fingerprints
FL=Fingerprint Letter
IL=Interview letter
IV=Interview
OL=Oath Letter
OD=Oath date
DO=District office
SC=Service Center
NC=Namecheck

where can i find the NOA? is it the Notice date on the letter i first received after sending my application?
what does priority date mean?
how can i know that the NC (name check) has been done or still pending?

Other commonly used acronyms:

DO - district office
SC - service center (e.g. VSC = Vermont service center)
ASC - application support center (where you go for FP)

IO - interviewing officer

PoE - port of entry
CBP - customs & border protection

As some of the abbreviations can be a bit of confusing but if you have gone thry the I-485 (Permanent Resident) process you should have been familiar with at least 80% of these. Unless your immigration lawyer or personal assistant handled every thing for you, you may not know. Below is a link that have glossaries used of Immigration terms. I hope you read it...and hey you will be surprised how much you have learned. By the way - welcome to the board!

SC: Texas
DO: Tampa
Sent N400: 04/22/2008
FP: 05/15/2008
NC: I assume it is done
ID: 09/25/2008

ok thanx i updated my sig and i found out my DO is San Bernardino Field Office :) i hope that is a good thing

quick questions:

1- Name checks when is that actually done and is it done more than once? i thought i read someone saying name check after the oath and someone else before their oath. and i thought it was after the FP?

2- when does someone know that their applications is being processed? i was a little worried that there might be something wrong with or in my application since i filled it on my own and did not use a lawyer or something

3- If the n400s are mailed to laguna niguel then when does LA come in the equation. i hear people say LA so does the application makes its way to LA office eventually or something?

1) You have one fingerprint check and one namecheck and officer will check your application against their database. name check is done by FBI which hopfully will be fast and that is the only part most of people get stuck.

2) with N-400 application is hard to know when is done unless you get a notice of action. usually there is nothing wrong with application unless you didn't put it over there and you DON'T need a lawyer to fill up your case if your case is stright forward. Some complicated cases need some lawyer attention (someone who knows what is going on)
by any chance they need somthing they will inform you prior to your interview to bring them with you in that day.

3) after the FP processing your case will be forwarded to you DO, and they will schdule you a day for interview. LA office is busy somehow, but no one knows when is your time. Sometimes it is random and out of order. I didn't catch the last part of the Q3.

BTW, FP resuts usually goes back to USCIS the next day.

thanx for the answers. let me clarify what i meant in q3

1- i wanted to know if i get a letter for the FP does that mean my application is ok and nothing is wrong in it?

2- The CS is in laguna niguel or LA? does the LA office ever come in the picture?

1) You application should be fine, when you get your FP doesn't mean everything is OK but if anything is wrong you can fix it during your Interview, specially if you are missing any evidence they will ask you to bring it.
But you got the Fp so don't worry and relax. I had the same thinking when I was in your place.

2) CSC is the initiation of your application, LA office is not a center. LA office should be a DO. So if you think LA is your DO then you will have your interview there and all the process after your name check is cleared.

Unless is somethig else going on there, San Bernardino should take care of everything after CSC.
