Yet another stamping experience at Newark, NJ

I guess there have been many stamping exeprience posts in the past few days. Quick observations:

Stamping Date: 29-Sep-2004

1. As MahatPurush mentioned (you do not need infopass appt), I did not care to get a trivial infopass appointment. I reached the building around 7:20 am today. There were already around 75 people. So if one reaches before say 7:45 am they should be fine without a stupid infopass appointment. My approval notice mentioned I could walk-in anytime between 8-12 pm on any wednesday.

2. I was handed a pamphlet (green background) which indicated to reach the 3rd floor. This was after the security check. Took around 1.5 hours to get past the security check (no one was allowed to get until 8 am).

3. on the 3 rd floor there is a big room to hand over your approval notice. There are around 20 counters available.
The first step here is turn in your approval notice and you get I551 forms. They take your fingerprints and ask you to sign. A token is assigned to you (e.g C055). In case of primary and derivative applicants, only 1 token is assigned.

The second step is to wait for your token number to show up and go to the corresponding counter to turn in all documents (EADs, APs), 2 full frontal photos (want to emphasize that ADIT are not accepted, even though my approval notice required ADIT style photos). Incase you have photographs that do not match the CIS requirements, you could still turn in all the documents at the counter and leave the premises to happily get new photos in a few minutes (there are couple of shops on broad street which give you instant photos. 4 photos for $10). Took about an hour's wait time here.

The third step is to wait for the background check to complete. Yet again the same token number is used to call you to get your passport stamped. It took about an hour.

I was out of the building by 11:45 am.

Note:

1. No one had to go to 11th floor. I guess everything is taken care of on the 3rd floor now.

2. I took the path and City Subway. One has to get down at Military Park (earlier it was called Broad St). The fares: Path ($1.20 if you have the multiple trip card otherwise $1.50), Subway ($0.50) per person. There is 5-6 block walk from the subway station to 970 Broad St.

HTH

Good Luck to you all. I was told that I can expect the card in 6-12 months. So lets see how things will shape up.

Cheers

I guess people were going to Social Security office on 11th Floor

To Remove "INS Authorization" on their Social Security Card-You may do the same by visiting other social security offices on some other day too. :)

Ssn

I asked the officer, where can I change the restriction and she told me to go the nearest SSA office. She did not suggest to go to 11th floor. I guess most of the officers are moderately competent.
