My case was approved yesterday after an RFE. The whole process took exactly 6 years (in NYC) -- this is the timeline:
PD: 02/96
Labor: approved 08/99
I140: approved 08/00
I485: ND 10/00
RFE issued: 09/01
RFE reply received on: 10/22/01
Approval: 02/06/02
Country: Other
As you can see from the dates above, I got delayed at every stage: after the extremely slow NY DOL, somehow the I140 times increased tremendously at VSC right about the time that I applied. The 485 also took unusually long time, even the RFE response took them 3.5 months to handle.
Came to the US in \'92 to study, got a job in \'94, my employer made me wait for 1 year before they filed (per company policy -- and that year actually became a year and a half due to HR/the company lawyers). So, in my tenth year in this country, finally a free man!
Overall, this has been one of the most bizarre and excruciating processes that I have ever had to endure. The INS/Labor Dept. bureaucracy and the Byzantine complexity of the whole thing are almost unbelievable.
Best wishes to everyone still waiting!
