Yellow letter

Hi
I followed people's suggestion on this forum to put traffic tix on the N400. I mentioned that I was cited. This was 12 and 5 yrs ago. Now the yellow letter is asking me to get court records of arrest (I was never arrested) and other incidents (traffic citations).
I have no clue how to get them. This sounds very messy. Please advise

That's a standard letter even if you are not arrested. All you need to do is go to the county court where you got the ticket and ask for COURT DISPOSITION for the ticket. That is the proof that you paid the fine. Take that for the interview and show it IF the IO asks for it. If the county court is very far, call them first and see if they can mail the disposition if you pay the fee over the phone.

No need to be panic even if you are not able to get the court records, if the fines were below $500. You can tell IO that you have paid the fine/fees but you don't have any proof right now.. No documentation is needed for fines below $500 and no DUI involved in the incident.

I got a speeding tix in Virginia in 1998 and a wrong turn in IL in 2004. Both fines were below $100.
I currently live in IL. I'll skip proof as suggested because they are less than $500. Anybody in situation similar to me, please tell me your exp with interviewers

What is Yellow letter?

I have read a lot on this forum about the yellow letter, but we still did not receive the yellow letter. We got the IL notice and a white paper, with a generic list of items. Is this normal? Should we still wait for the yellow letter? My husband did have a DUI occurrence in 1999 and I declared that in the N400 form.

i have received yellow paper requesting certified copy of court disposition, etc. I received that because i indicated in my N-400 that i was cited for minor traffic infraction (driving on HOV lane). The citation was in 2003 and it was dismissed by a judge. I have stated in the N-400 the reason for citation, the disposition, including the Case #, and name of the municipal court. (All info is available in the municipal court webpage).

It appears like they wanted certified copy. I went to the municipal court and asked them for certified copy of the disposition. It took them 5 minutes to process and give me the certified copy. I was impressed by their adminstrative efficiency. That is not all ....they do that at no charge!! I was like ...what!

I gathered...there is also an option to call and order for copies via mail. I think they charge few bucks for that. Note, it all depends where you live and what rules apply in your area.

Below is the timeline....

teacher2003, what is the yellow letter ? Is this for interview ? please shed a light.

Yes. You will get this once your interview has been scheduled. Your case file will be reviewed by an IO and based on the review, a check list will be prepared adn sent to you as a reminder. The letter is called CFR Letter (case file review letter) and it is usually on a yellow paper.

The most common thing that they ask to bring is: Driver's license (or photo ID) - for address verification. Some other cases, they may ask to get the court records (if any citations/arrests/etc).

I got a yellow letter today as well. It asks for the drivers license and court disposition.

How can I get that? I requested driving record from RMV and I have no outstanding payment.

Also I did not get IL letter yet. When would I supposed to expect after yellow letter?

Just go to the court which handled your case/ticket for disposition doc.
They can provide it perhaps with a fee. But if the case is very old,
the court may already archive it and it may be hard to get. But if
it is about some minor issue like traffic violation and very old say more than 10 years ago the USCIS may not care that much
