Yellow Letter before Interview

It looks like that the new process warrants issuances of such letters now a days - it's still a bit of mystery though for us, the applicants. Most get it, some don't. Also, interviewing officers don't seem to pay any attention to this letter based on what people here have written about their interview experiences; and there seems to be no correlation in terms of time-lines between getting this letter and interview letter.
According to the officer that conducted my interview, the yellow letter is generated during the data entry process based on the information on your N-400. It's not binding but is guidance as to what documentation the interviewer may want to see based on your circumstances. For example, I had declared a couple of speeding tickets and got a yellow letter asking me to take paperwork relating to any arrests as a result of this.
