Yay... I think I got my FBI name check cleared!

It's 3 years from the date you became a permanent resident, that is when the I-485 is approved.

EDIT: It's actually 2 years and 9 months from the date you became a permanent resident.

Correct.
Considering that you've been married at least 3 years and the spouse was an American citizen for at least 3 years also.

so if it takes say 2 years to get I-485 approved, I will still have to wait another 3 years (minus 3 months) before I can apply, correct? so we are talking 5 years since marriage date...
what if I have a GC based on employment (5 year wait for GC) and then get married. do I still wait 5 years or just 3?
Thanks!!!

Nati,

If you are married to a USC, you don't have to wait for 2 years to get your GC, it is taking an avg of 10-11 months these days. The processing time differs depending on the DO, check the "AOS Timeline" thread by Ari4u for timelines at different DOs.

Having said that, I am a bit confused by the wording of your posts... are you planning on getting married or weighing your options . If you are in love... go get married... other things will fall in place with time. Good Luck :)

I am with you, a-usc, but if you are stuck with the name check, even marriage based can take a long time. I've been waiting for my NC since december 2003 and still waiting (EB)... so now that I am thinking of getting married, I am trying to figure out what my timeline will be. I am ready to be done with CIS!
Hence my question, if I do get my EB GC and get married, do I still have to wait 5 years, or just 3?
