Hi gurus and experts:

God knows why and how this happend to me.

Got the renewed EAD card. However the valid dates on the card is wrong. It's supposed to be 12/xx/2002 - 12/xx/2003, but INS had the card valid from 12/xx/2003 - 12/xx/2004. I reported this to VCS and officer promised to take a look at it. The 2nd time I called I was told this case was in quality control department and they are going to take a look at it. The officer won't tell me how long it will take to get my correct EAD card.

I am looking into other opportunities and without the EAD card, I can't really change job. Can I work for another employer now or I have to wait for the correct EAD card? The INS website does say that my application was approved and I did receive my renewed EAD card, just with wrong dates. Can I walk into local INS office and ask for a interim EAD card?

Please advise. Thanks!!!

Here is the advise

Don't worry guy..

It happended recently to one of my friend and it happended to me last year for my Advance Parole.
In my friend's case, he sent card back to VSC according to IIO and waiting for corrected card.
In my case last yr lawer talked to IIO and we sent AP's back with set of new photos, I got corrected AP's after a month.

If you happend to have a lawer you ask him to contact VSC instead of you calling, that will help.

Other wise, If you happended to send the Wrong EAD card to VSC already, wait for the new card. They will send you the card with corrected dates.
Without new EAD card it is tough to start a new job as they will ask for you Employment validity.

keep in touch..and post if u hear any from VSC.

sending back the EAD card

I've talked to two immigration officers at VSC and none of them asked me to send back the EAD card with wrong dates. They told me to wait and wait and what bothers me is that they told me they don't know how long I would have to wait. I renewed the EAD card without going through my attorney 'cause I don't want to pay him another $250 bucks.

I am interviwing for a new position with another company. I definitely need the EAD card to work. Are you saying you waited for a month from the date you reported the wrong dates to INS to the date you receive the corrected card? Man, that's really long.

Can I go to the local INS office and get an interim EAD card? Or I can just work for the new employer because I submitted the application and per INS website, it was approved.

Thanks!!!

Worth Trying

I think going to the local INS is worth trying. Tell them that you are in urgent need of EAD and see what they can do. After all, this is not your fault.

it is worth trying in local ins

Yes. I sent back the wrong dated AP and waited for one month for new one.
You can try in local INS, but usually they will not issue or consider the approved cases. Unless you go to offices like Arlington, VA, Newark, Nj and Boston other offices are so strict about such issues. but still give a try.

If you can convince you new employer and if he agrees then its ok, as you are going to have continuty in dates on EAD (old and corected new one).

All the best.

They asked you to wait for What?

Did they promise to send you another EAD card with
correct date?

I have similar situation before. We renewed two EAD cards.
But the cards we received had photos in wrong place, i.e.,
card A had B's photo while card B had A's Photo.

Called IIO on December of 2002, he asked us to send card
back with a note explaining what went wrong. We sent
the card back to VSC as instructed, but until now we did
not hear anything from them.

Anyone can give me any advice?

Immigration officer promised me to send me a new EAD card with correct dates

Immigration officer promised to send me a new EAD card with correct dates, but none of them can tell me how long it will take, wouldn't even guess. They didn't ask me to send back the wrong-dated EAD card or file another application or anything. They said they can't do anything because the case has transferred to quality control. They asked me just wait.... wait for the new EAD....With the current processing speed in INS, god knows when they will get that corrected.

I've also asked the immigration officer whether I can go to local INS office to get an interim EAD card. She told me Newark NJ (which is the jurisdiction I belong to) is extremely busy and usually they don't issue interim EAD card for those cases that have been approved. RIDICULOUS!!!
