First of all, I hope I am posting my question right way. Now my situation is really weird. I am a permanent US resident for over 5 years. The case is in my passport from India, I never used my lastname..so My passport has just one name that is my first name and lastname space is blank. So when I came here, Social Security put my last or First name as Unk,.......(my first name) Green Card has my First or Last name as FNU,.........(my first name). I have had real hard time in five years from point to point because of that To file taxes, to get jobs, to open accounts, to make Ids, to buy cars, rent place to live..I mean everywhere it's a problem me having a different names on both social security and green card and that name is not even my last name. I have a lastname but in my passport no proof for that.After a lot of my efforts, recently Social Security issued me with a new card with the same name as on my Green card Fnu,.....(my first name) I am ready to file for my citizenship now, but can't because of this major issue. I don't want to use FNU as my first or last name on my citizenship or on all of my other documents, accounts, credit cards, etc etc. If anybody can help me, what can I do, can i bring any documents from India, or Can i go to court, to fight for that or is there any form I can fillup. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't want to use FNU as my first or last name on my citizenship or on all of my other documents, accounts, credit cards, etc etc. If anybody can help me, what can I do, can i bring any documents from India, or Can i go to court, to fight for that or is there any form I can fillup. I don't understand. What do you want them to do? You want to have only one name? I don't think it works like this here in the US.

wow.. that is interesting.. do you even use a last name in any other legal documents?
anyhow, you said you can't file the citizenship application before because you have 2 different names (with no last name) on green card and ss? i thought SSA fixed it for you based on how your name being spelled out on your greencard.

Thanks guys for taking the time to read my post. My situation is, even Now I have a same last name on both social secuirty and green card, it's still not my real last name. To be precise they both read as FNU,..........(my first name). Now I do have a lastname but it's not in any of my documents. So I want to have that lastname used as my lastname to be precise my last name, my first name. Every single person who reads my accounts, cards, my nameplate or anything questions what is unk or fnu..you know. I don't want to end up using just one name, I want to use my real last and first name that is not documented in my passport. I hope that clears situation than before.

If you wait until you naturalize, I think you can change your name right there and then.
