hi,
can anybody plz help i applied for AP on RD mar30 and approved but ,in my spouce AP name was incorrect.only one letter. plz help she has to apply AP again or can we make any corrections with INS.
my lawer talked to a ins officer he told to reapply AP .They don't do corrections it seems is it right?
------ where did your lawyer talk to INS officer???? did he talked to the service center that issued AP? I think he did not talk to the service center. FYI if the lawyer filed the AP of your wife and lawyer did a mistake in her name on form I-131 that is used for AP then it is mistake of lawyer, if lawyer filed with correct name then it is USCIS mistake and if it is USCIS mistake then they DO correct the documents or mistakes on documents.

Chat User : My name is misspelled in my H1B extension. If I apply for stamping in India, will it create any problem?
Attorney Murthy : Usually, a minor typo in the spelling, like one letter, may not create a big problem. On the other hand, if the difference in the spellings makes one wonder if it is the same person, it is likely to create a problem or delay the visa issuance. There is no harm in applying to the CIS for the issuance of a duplicate H1B approval notice by pointing out the service error and requesting a duplicate approval notice with the minor correction/s.

Question submitted by Approv:
I received the I-485 approval couple of days back. I have one problem in that. When I applied for I-485 I wrongly typed my initial. After that I sent several letters to INS to change it. But not to anyone's surprise they did not change it. Now my approval notice has the wrong initial. What do I do ? Will the local INS office change it when I go for the visa stamping or I have go through the length process with Vermont Service Center. Please advice me. Thanks
Answer from Jose_Latour:
Approv, you face a 10-15 year sentence in federal prison for fraud. Not really. IT'S A TYPO, APPROV, what kind of dictatorship do you think we're running over here! (-; You'll be fine, bud. When you go for the adjustment, take copies of all the letters that the INS has totally ignored to the adjudicating officer, he or she will groan, roll their eyes, and correct your record once and for all. CONGRATS

9. What should be done if information on a visa or approval notice is incorrect (such as birthdate or a misspelled name)?
A- What? A computer error? IMPOSSIBLE!
Okay, I admit it: INS does that rather regularly. If the mistake is clearly a typo for example, your name is "Doug" but they typed "Dog"-- it's probably not a big deal. In those cases, we notify INS via certified letter and INS sends corrected notices maybe 1 out of 10 times. If it's something more critical I recently had a client approved for permanent residency in the WRONG category (!) well, then you have to slug it out via fax and letters till the correction is made.
Thanks
