Wrong Birth Place in Passport

Hi !!

My wife\'s birth place is incorrect in her passport. But she has the original Birth Certificate with correct place of Birth. If we submit this B.C. then there would be a discrepancy between the Passport and the B.C.

Can anyone tell if this is OK to go ahead with. Or should I:

a) Not send the B.C. and try to obtain an Affidavit for No B.C.
or
b) Try to get the Birth Place changed in the Passport (can it be done in the US ?) I don\'t know it that\'s possible though.

Please advice if anyone has faced this problem or has heard of any case dealing with it.

I think you should call Indian Embassy, Washington D.C.
If it is possible, you can get it done in a week.
I think it is better to change the birth place in the passport so that there will not be any problems in future.

Actually you might not wanna bother making changes to I485 application because you have to (and you most likely did) submit copies of Passport at the time of I485 application itself. However, to be on the safe side, get the passoport changed at an Indian Embassy so that you are ready in case of an RFE which is highly unlikely in this case. If you wish to make resubmit changed passport (the one you may get from Indian Embassy with the P.O.B changed) details to INS you may create unnecessary headache for yourself bcoz. INS can easily screw things up. This is just my advice, however.
