I would like to renew my AP but the PDF form I downloaded from INS website is not writable. Any idea how to work around ?. Is it a good idea to fill up the form by hand rather than typing ?

I had Acrobat Reader 5.0 and the form was not writable in that version. Then I upgraded to version 7 and I was able to fill the form though you cannot save it. You have to print it after filling. give it a try...

First thing it is not a requirement that form should be electronically type written. Hand written should be fine. Few weeks back I sent hand filled EAD forms for me and my wife and have been approved in less than 3 weeks.
If you want to have a writable form and save it, you need a writable Acrobat Reader. The one which is available freely is only a readable format. With this freely available software you can fill the forms and take the prints immeditely. If you want to save them, only blank forms (without entered data) are saved. I have a writable Acrobat and I fill the forms and save them on my hard disks like any other docs. They retain all the data I entered.
thanks for the information !! How important is to send the NON-Digital pictures for EAD renewal? I have the COSTCO taken DIGITAL pictures? you think those should be fine?
Digital Pictures are accepted for EAD. But for AP it all depends on the officer and the luck of the person. I sent mine and my wife's digital photoes taken in CVS for EAD renewals and these were accepted and EADs were approved in less than three weeks.
Before processing on KODAK automatic printing machine, I checked the photoes carefully on the monitor and were printed only when I okeyed. After printing I was not satisfied with my wife's photoes as they were not as bright as I feel them to be accepted easily by USCIS. I requested CVS associate to take the photoes of my wife again and they happily did it without charging anything extra. So digital photoes are fine for EADs.
