This is my first post and I would appreciate if you could answer my question or give your opinion on this issue. Here is a summary of my visa situation

1st I-797A-I got my H1 in Feb 2005 (F1->H1) for 1 year
2nd I-797A-It was extended in 2006 for three years (Feb 2006 to Feb 2009)
3rd I-797A-This year it was amended and extended (we filed early because there was a promotion issue) from July 2008 to Feb 2011

I went back to Pakistan in 2006 and got my visa stamped till Feb 2009 so currently I have a valid visa till 2009.

The problem:

My 1st I-797A had the I94 number that I had from my F1 stay. When my stay was extended and it had the same 1797A number as i did not travel in between. I then went to Pakistan in 2006 (submitted my I94 to airline officials) and got the visa stamped. Now when i came back I had a new I-94 but the I-797A was the same (2nd one that is).

This year I traveled again and gave back the i-94 that I got in 2006 and came back and got a new one. So at the time of applying for an amendment/exteention I had following documents

1- Visa till feb 2009 (stamped in 2006)
2- 2nd I797A which had the same I94 number which i got from my F1 days and which was on my f1st 1797A
3- I-94 from my 2008 travel earlier this year

Now here the problem starts.

This year when we applied for extension/amendment I got my 3rd I797A and its from july 2008 to feb 2011. This all looks okay however the I-94 number is still the one that was on my 1st and 2nd I797A. I don't know why that happened

- Shouldnt it match the I94 number that i got earlier this year? When we applied for extension that was the I-94 that I had on my passport. This was the first extension that we applied for after I travelled so thie situation is different from when we extended from 1st to 2nd. At that time i didnt travel in between. This time I did and i had a new I-94 so I was expecting that new stay would reflect that/

Next year I have to get a visa stamped again and i am worried that there is this mismatch in my record.

Sorry for the long post but I hope i gave you all details so that you understand the whole situation better

thanks

The university scholars office is looking into it as they are not sure about it. They said that I will not have problem in getting the visa as it is a separate department altogether. Also I can go and come back without problems. However they are concerned if i stay here.

they are helpful however right now the situation is vague and not clear to me.

It is fine. As long as you did not go out of status at any time you should be fine. I-94 numbers come and go.
