working outside US while on H1b

Hey Guys,

My employer wants me to go work on a Project in Australia for about 8 months or so....I am on H1B right now, do you think it will affect my H1b status if I go and work in Australia and then come back to US after 8 months?????

Please reply soon since this is really urgent....

CIS does not care about your status when you are out of the US.
You just need to come back when visa and H1 petition are valid. Better to carry company letter when you come back after long absence.

thanks for the response...so here's another question, if I file my greencard with my company, then can i still travel to australia and work there on a project for tht long? ofcourse my company will bring me back to US every 2 months or so for a week...

You are always employed by them.. There is no issue to travel during GC is in process, but if adjuducation of I-485 is close, you had better talk to lawyer whether you can come back on H1 after I-485 approval.. I guess you had better have AP in that case.
