just wanted to know if one gets a notice of deportation with the date not yet set can one still work legally using the social security no given previously before the date is set. whats the best thing to do.

To work at any job in US, you need authorization. If you have a Green Card or EAD, you can continue to work until it is revoked.
Otherwise, your potentil employer world need to apply to USCIS for a status for you, which would likely be rejected given your current situation.
