Work permit

Would you please advise me in the following matter:
my wife is in the process of filing I-730 on my behalf. I am currently on H-1 visa and thinking about changing jobs.
Will I have to file for another H-1 visa while my I-730 is pending or I can get my work permit before my I-730 is approved?

The I-730 does not do you any good until it is actually approved. When it it, you do not need to apply for a work permit. You are authorized to work as a matter of right.

But in the interim, you should extend your original status if possible.
