Hi,
My H1 was approved(status change from B2) in the Ist week of august 2002 and now it's been 5 weeks that I 've applied for my SSN. When contacted the SS office regarding SSN they said, at times it might go upto 60-90 days too. Now since I haven't got my SSN, I haven't started working.
1. Can I start working without a SSN or should i wait till i receive it?
2. Since I haven't started working, would it have an impact on my H1(any problems)?
3. Is it possible to change company at this moment?
Kindly help--thanks.

1. Yes you can as long company/clients are ok with it.
2. Yes. it will have an impact on h1
3. Yes you may, but for a h1 transfer recent paystubs might be required.
It is a vicious circle.

Thanks Jaxen.
1.What impact would it have on my H1, if I don't start working till I get my SSN?(it's been almost 50 days since I my H1 got approved)
2. Is it legal to start working without SSN?
Do help!Thanks

1. you are supposed to get paid from day 1 on your h1. maybe you can ask your employer to give a letter giving out reasons why you are not being paid

2. Yes it is legal if an application for SSN is pending.
