Work exprience question DV

so my level of education is college with no degree, and i want to use the work experience for the DV ,but i gained that experience through self learning (freelancing ) and am a 3D level designer (and on the onetonline the SVP Range & job zone for my skill is the right requirement) , so my question is: is there a way to show that i have 2+ years of experience as a freelancer .(if not is there is a way like a test (online or taking/paying the course(test) that i can do to prove that ))

Do you have a high school diploma? - completing high school is usually a prerequisite for college. If so, that is all you need, you don’t need to show you meet the work experience requirement.

(If you did want to show the experience as a feeelancer by the way you would do that through the contracts you have completed for clients.)

no (i mean on my post high school) (sorry)

Ok then, you will need to compile a list of the contracts you completed for clients, detailing the type of work you did for them, what you got paid, etc.

and should i print it (to show it on the interview )
Yes, be aware that proving work experience is not easy. I suggest you have copies of everything - all the contracts, how long they ran for (to show you have at least two years of full time experience), if possible samples of the work you did, payments invoiced to show that you were earning the equivalent of a professional salary in that field, and you also need to show how it all lines up with the job description in O*net. For freelancers, it is possible they may contact some of your clients randomly to confirm the type of work, not sure.

and on the DS260 primary occupation, what should I do on the information part (as i work for my self should i do my name and address ??)(and the freelancer choice is not there)

and on PayPal there is only invoice payment there is no contract or time scale of the job

and it's ok to have them printed (to show on the interview date )

If you don’t have any contracts how do you plan to be able to show them that the work you have been doing meets the requirements for DV ? A bunch of payments on PayPal with no context doesn’t prove anything to them.

Simply showing payment in paypal is not enough to prove you have experience. Like Susie says, do you have any contract documents to show the work you were requested to do? Have you done any kinds of courses that support your field, do you have any reference letters from your clients (this one is tricky as anyone could write something for you), do you have a portfolio of your work that shows greater than 2 year history?

When I applied and used work experience, I had every payslip that showed my job title for the past 5 years, copies of every letter of offer for new positions and promotions, certificates of course completions that aligned to my field, my resume, a printed copy of my Linked in and letters from previous bosses on company letterhead

i do have payment made by invoice (when i send an invoice i put the detail of what they paying and term of service in there in paypal).

about the resume, i can make one. (as i only show the reputation on a freelance website and that talk on my behalf ).

and yes i have portfolio of work that i did.

and i have no certificates of course completions,(as i did everything in the past 3-4 year from self-learning,( is there is a test that i can pass that can show that i have the necessary time experience instead of courses )

I'm not a CO so I can't really speak for them but what you have listed above just doesn't seem very strong to support your case. So when you say you self learned, did you do any online courses or career mentorship with someone in that field? You really need to dig deep and think outside the box on what you can do to PROVE you have those skills.
During my interview I was grilled on each position I had, what my responsibilities were, I was asked for date ranges of when I worked for specific companies - the CO had my resume in front of him so was firing off questions, at times I had to stop and think but I was confident that even if my word was not enough I had solid documentation to back up my experience.

How can you have a test that proves time experience ?
I am not sure how a CO is going to be able to judge whether your portfolio of work aligns with the job description on o*net. Or if wish you have can prove the equivalent to at least two years of full time work. I guess if this is what you have you can give it your best shot but to be honest I agree with Ayden, it sounds a bit light.
Which consulate will you be interviewing at?

what i mean by self-learning is : learning from mistakes and community helping & the constant work that i did for the past 2+ years (that i can prove by invoices ).

so invoice (of PayPal) and portfolio & and giving reputation/review from a freelance website (that were given by the client ) is not enough to prove that i have work on that type of skill/work in the past 2+ years ??

Hi everyone,

I also have a question about the work experience requirement.

I don't meet the education requirement as I didn't finish high school but I am confident about supplying supporting documents about my current employment showing alignment with an O*Net OnLine occupation.

However, I am considering enrolling in a PhD full-time starting 2021 so my question is does the work completed toward a PhD course count as work experience for DV purposes? For example, I could align the research work completed as part of the course to an O*Net OnLine occupation. It is not a paid job but it is professional work.

Thanks for any advice.

Hmmm. You may find they are picky about both actually having a job title (graduate RA, for example, as opposed to just being a student even if the work is identical) and about “doubling up” on doing the same thing as a student and claiming it as work. The requirement is 2 years of such experience within the past 5 years so assuming you already meet or will have met that by the time you interview, I wouldn’t be inclined to complicate it with this.

Are you a DV21 selectee or is this question in case you get selected next year?

Thanks for your reply SusieQQQ.

I'm not a DV21 selectee. I have applied for DV22 and, if selected, I could support the employment requirement (up until mid-2019 as I have been on unpaid leave since mid-2019). The question was more for future DV lotteries as ideally I would like to continue applying if I am not selected next year.
