With RTD to Russia. Will I need a NP?

As a citizen of Belarus I don't need a visa to enter Russia. Will Il have to show both RTD and NP upon arrival?
Passport expires in a year, clear advice from this forum - not to renew it. Can I travel only with RTD, is this enough?
The lawyer said that's better to have valid passport...
Thanks.

Travel to Russia

I have travelled to Russia both using an RTD and using NP+Advance Parole. I do not have a GC yet.

First of all, Russian Embassy DOES issue visas to RTD holders WITHOUT GC. No matter what their website says - disregard that. Don't try to do it yourself - you'll get the same response. My advice is to use a travel agent - they do it fast, without any problems and for a reasonable fee. I have found out that for Russian embassy specifically it is very hard to get a visa if you do it yourself. There are several travel agents who already have established working relationships with embassy employees, and they basically "own" the market. Here is one of the agencies you can use:
http://www.gotorussia.com/index.htm

One thing that I will advise though - considering the fact that you still have a valid NP - when you use a RTD, you will pay about $100-$150 in visa fees PLUS you will need to get a "registration" in Russia (costs about $30.00, can be done at any travel agency/hotel) because they consider you as a "foreign tourist" and it does not count where you are originally from.

I would strongly suggest using an NP. You will not need to pay anything to anybody, and if you stay there less than 3 days, you do not need a "registration". If you stay longer, you'll need to get it. Normally no questions asked at the passport control, but if they do ask you where do you reside etc, you can show your RTD as an additional document, not replacement of NP.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks,
L.

Thank you for your response. But I'm not sure that I can get a visa because of the agreement between Belarus-Russia according to which there is a visa-free procedure for citizens of Belarus to visit Russia and visa-verse.
Lusiks, did I understood right that when I land in Moscow I should show my NP not RTD?

Don't complicate things, just use your NP. I know many Russian who go to Russia and Belarus using their NP

No need for NP, RTD is enough. I used travel agency when applied for Russian visa.
Use your RTD when entering Russia from the USA, use your NP for Belarus.

Only if you use your NP.
If you travel with your NP then you don’t need to worry about a visa.
If you plan to travel (to enter Russia) with RTD only – then you do need a visa, regardless of your nationality. Remember - RTD represents you as a “stateless person” and you won’t be allowed on a plane to Russia with RTD without a visa.
I would advice you to show your NP in JFK and then in Moscow on entrance.
On the way back show your NP again. You’ll be asked if you have GC or visa to enter US – show them your RTD. Back in the US – show them your RTD.
Have a nice trip!
