Wishing you all well as time moves quickly along!

MattK, why did you write it. While yes, you said that it is a subjective opinion. But some once again want to write bad to Russia and throw a stone without reason. Okay, would write the truth and then lie.

People, do not be a sheep, and think with your head and do not believe the media and do not take positions for the truth, the man who all his life does not like Russia.

If I do not like apple juice, it does not mean that it is not tasty.

Sloner, please give us an idea of which countries you gave visited on your world travels where you compared Russian life to theirs. I only ask because you consistently paint this picture of life in Russia as being a Wonderful thing, but then we are talking on a "I want to emigrate to the USA" forum. Seems odd.

Goodness, this thread too a sharp turn from the original post! :P I wish you all the very best MattK in your new journey, with your new plans. We all set goals and head off in different directions for our own reasons and that is the bottom line hey? I am sure you are in for some incredible experiences where ever you land. Take care of yourself and thank you for giving us the update. :)

I thought I was mostly giving your country a compliment. I like Russia and I like Russians however I do not like the Russian government. You should not take it personally. I criticize the government of Australia a lot myself.

Ill add that I traveled to Moscow, Veliky Novgorod, Pushkin and Saint Petersburg. I'm not sure where you live but I thought that all of these places were fascinating.

Apologies Qewty. I did not mean for the thread to turn out this way. It is great to hear from you again and I thank you very much for your kind words. I hope that everything works out great for you :)

Traveling is not life. I can go to the beaches of the Philippines, and then say, "wow, this is a country of my dreams." But in fact, this country is very far from the standard of living even Uzbekistan.
I do not draw Russia remarkable, as you can not understand, I'm telling the truth for what it is there. I live here and see it all. And do not live in Moscow and St. Petersburg, where life is very differs. I do not like it when people lie and invent nonsense about my country and propaganda slogans. Let come and see. MattK, was there and I have no complaints.
Nonsense about the Internet just struck me. Simon, how many people from Russia? visit your site. Susie wrote that block online with us. Hell, I do not know. Why, then, I come to this site. I was also blocked.
And why am I sitting here. Simon you do not like the nasty rain in London. I do not like cold weather at -50 ° C and 6 months of winter.:) In Russia, only two places where the winters are not cold. This Sochi and the Crimea.

Friend, I do not like the government and I have no complaints to you. Russia has its own characteristics and beautiful nature. And life here has its own characteristics and problems, as elsewhere.
Man sees only what he wants to see. If he sees only bad in the country, he will see it. Susie, flies to ignore such people should be avoided as far as possible. They are liars. :)
I wrote the opinion. Further discussion consider meaningless. Simon, if you want to ask a question on this topic, write to the PM.

Thanks Sloner. I was genuinely interested in your travel history because the Western assumption would be that you are pro Russia because you don't have much experience of other countries. I have never visited Russia, but MattK and SusieQQQ have, so their opinions cannot be ignored. And if you only have what you have experienced inside Russia, that would explain your perspective. I hope you win DV2016, and later you can look back at Russia with a different perspective.

Good point about the weather. I can understand!

SusieQQ, was not in Russia. She brazenly lying. Okay, but you were not in Russia, too, and I hope to visit this country. :) It Is A Pity. not everyone got an interview in 2014:)
Therefore, I think this topic meaningless. I'll explain about one thing. You mean other. It's like talking through the glass, which does not transmit sound.

You brainwashed by Western propaganda. You are not smart enough to open and read Russian sites.

Honestly, people like Susie and Sensei in the United States do nothing.
Dear Sloner, I perfectly understand your frustration. It does not sound pretty when someone berates you mother-land not even having been there or met enough people from there.
When I said Russia I meant government.
I am as brainwashed as it gets myself - I am Belarusian. I would think a "slavic brother" would be considered family, and therefore would not be frowned upon for speaking out candidly.

Just to clarify. I am not attacking anyone personally. But given my own background, I give very short shrift to repressive governments, and I don't think I need to be Slavic, or chinese, or anything else other than a human being who cares about people, to state an opinion on that, just as most of the people who effectively supported sanctions against SA in the 1980s were not southern African.

The Russians I met and stayed with were some of the best people I have ever met. Not just the ones I came to know quite well, but even the 'strangers' I met on the street or in passing were all extremely polite and seemed eager to show goodwill and warm feelings.

That's perfectly normal: there are good and crappy people everywhere.

I honestly am ready thankful for this dv lottery things because if it wasn't for it i would be stuck in this third world shithole forever without any immigration path. Most developed countries make it very difficult to migrate except you're some kind of nuclear scientist or a wealthy businessman. For Europeans and Australians who are complaining, you guys need a reality check, if you complain about how things are in your developed country then i think the us would be no different. Europeans and Australians need to stop complaining, if you're from Africa, South America or Asia then go ahead and complaint as you please. Me personally if i was European or Australian i wouldn't rush to immigrate to the US. Some things are better in Europe but some things are worse as well, it's a tradeoff. We in third world country don't have the benefit of either.

I wish i had a low cn.

I'd say you are WRONG. I said it before and will say it again: Just because someone from a "third world country" (your words) may be desperate to leave for reasons that might not be an issue for people from so called 'developed' nations, it does not give you the right to judge about other people's reasons or deny them their aspirations. Perhaps they are irrelevant to you, in the context of what you may be experiencing in your own country, but the rest of the world (be it "developed" or not) does not have to constantly compare to the "lowest standard" and therefore be forever grateful to the point of feeling 'ashamed' for having aspirations to live in another 'developed' nation than the one they were born in.

I wish you all the best of luck!

I get your point
Humans will never be satisfied with whatever they have.

But because I've never been in a modern, developed, Western nation, i find it silly seeing them complaining about how things aren't how they are supposed to when they are much more adequate than they are in my country, perhaps it's because of my background, if i had been born in Australia or Europe maybe I'd end up the same.

But still, i fail to see why moving to the us would stop them from complaining, people who live in Europe or Australia

The us and Europe and Australia are all modern developed western nations that have a lot in common. In fact if if it wasn't for the "easiness" of the dv process i would probably go with a European country.

If you're from a third world shithole like me then by all means, complaint.

Yeah, yet "DV" does not stand for "Developing (Country) Visa", just in case you wondered :). Surely, many can and do sympathize with your wish for a low cn and do feel likewise.

I am always stunned when I am told I need a "reality check". I can assure you, I check my reality often. Let me check again...yes, still there, still the same as I expected it to be - completely my experience, my life and my plans. Am I Australian? Indeed. Am I much more fortunate than others? Absolutely. Do I still have the same rights as anyone else to make plans, complain, and perhaps even..just perhaps, immigrate to the United States for reasons that are ultimately good reasons because they are mine? Yes I do, and those rights require no direction for a reality check from others whose own experience is their own, as mine is to me.
