On the finger print notice, INS says that the case would be abandoned if the applicant did not go to an appointment. There is a possibility that the applicant may not get the finger print notice at all if it is lost on the way. Will they really deny the case?

You should request for fingerprinitng rescheduling with INS, explain why you missed and they will reschedule one final time

But, how to know if it is lost or not. Some folks did not receive it for over a year, how can they know what happened to the mail? Thanks.

You can get the correct information regarding your FP notice sent or not including date of despatch from the above number. You need to have your I-485 receipt number (EAC number) to get this information.
