Will J1 hurt my chances of H1B next year?

Hi,

In short, I got rejected from an H1B visa this year because my company misfiled me and I entered the lottery as a bachelor's degree holder instead of a master's degree holder (which should have been automatic).

Now they are planning to put me on a J1 visa until getting a H1B visa next year. Before moving on with this, I wanted to research myself so that I don't screw myself over in the future.

I am from Japan so that the 2 yr home country residency requirement doesn't apply to me.

Can I apply for an H1B that starts right after finishing a J1 term?
Can I apply during my J1 tenure? (so I can work during apr-oct next year)

Will I be able to apply for a J1 once this year's H1B request was rejected? (clearly visas intended for different things)

Thank you for the help.
